The Payroll Supervisor is to adhere to compliance of payroll process and deadlines as well as ensure that company's staff are paid accurately and on time....
The Payroll Supervisor will be responsible for capturing all various inputs provided by the manager as per the provided deadline as well as overseeing of team members and distribution of workload evenly. Successful candidate will report to the Payroll Manager and will have 4 employees reporting to them. Duties:
Supervisory and management duties:
- Supervise payroll officers
- Ensure that internal control procedures are strictly adhered to for all processes but not limited to the loading of new employees, termination of employees, capturing of payroll transactions including deductions and the payment of salaries
- Co-ordinate the payroll process for the organisation and possibly at divisional level if required
- Ensure that any company benefit programmes i.e. medical aid, provident, bonuses (when applicable) etc. are managed efficiently and effectively
- Ensure accurate and timeous payments to all third parties, including SARS, medical aid and provident fund
- Resolve employee queries & follow up on outstanding matters weekly and respond to e-mails within 48 hours
- Maintenance of staff payroll and tax records
- Preparation / review of all payroll reconciliations before being provided to the Finance Department within agreed timeframes
- Any other ad hoc duties
- Supervise staff to ensure excellent performance
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Ability to maintain 100% confidentiality
- Good knowledge of the appropriate sections of the South African Income Tax Act
- Excellent knowledge of Sage People 300
- Solid knowledge of Excel
- Working experience of payroll, tax, and employee benefit knowledge applicable to the gaming industry
- Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with contracts (union and non-union)
- Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers
- Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of electronic transfers to bank accounts
- Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee income and taxes, and employers unemployment, and workers compensation payments
- Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies or variances
- Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
- Ensure regulatory requirements are adhered to
- Good knowledge of the Employment Equity Act
- Communicate actively with the CEO and CFO, Finance department, Operations and HR team to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing regarding payroll systems
- Liaise with HR Department regarding new appointments, terminations and other relevant matters
Skills and Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- Relevant formal payroll qualification
- Developing, implementing and assessing standards, processes and procedures within the payroll function

- 5 years of experience in relevant position; 2 - 3 years in a supervisory position (supervisory experience is VERY important)
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook etc.)
- Excellent knowledge of Sage People System (non-negotiable)
- Relevant knowledge and application of applicable legislation
- Good communication skills
- Works well under pressure
