Municipal Pool Lifeguard

Requirements

Applicants who have worked in the last season (2023 -2024) need not

re-apply but are requested to contact their nearest area office.

  • A Grade 10 certificate OR 12 months relevant lifesaving experience
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid certificate or will be required to obtain one
within 6 months of appointment

  • A valid lifeguard certificate would be an advantage
  • Physically fit
  • Clear criminal record and no pending criminal cases, awaiting
trial and/or pending sentencing cases

  • Good communication and conflict handling skills and upholding
the image of the City at all times

  • Drug free
  • NOTE: All shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo
compulsory drug testing

  • NOTE: All shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo
compulsory competency assessments

NOTE: The main swimming pool season commences in September

2024. Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for

appointment as seasonal staff on a NON-PERMANENT SEASONAL

CONTRACT basis. Successful candidates are required to work on an

“as-and-when-required” basis up to a maximum payment of 40 hours

per week, primarily over weekends, public holidays and during the

school holidays and festive season periods.

Key Performance Areas

  • Lifeguarding functions including the following:
  • Patrolling, monitoring and controlling the pool and deck and
diving areas

  • Monitoring and controlling the entrance to and exit from the
pool and physical activities of patrons

  • Identifying, preventing and removing hazards and threats to pool
users

  • Recognising and responding quickly to all emergency situations
  • Ensuring own safety and that of others while participating in
aquatic rescues

  • Applying the correct/prescribed lifesaving and first aid procedures
