Job Title: Shutterhand Location: Johannesburg Job Summary: A Shutterhand in the construction industry is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and removal of shuttering/formwork used in concrete construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring that concrete structures are formed accurately and safely. The Shutterhand works closely with other construction team members to meet project specifications and deadlines. Key Responsibilities: Formwork Installation: Read and interpret construction blueprints and plans to determine the dimensions and layout of formwork. Measure, cut, and assemble formwork materials (such as timber, plywood, metal, etc.) for concrete structures. Install formwork for a variety of concrete structures, including foundations, walls, columns, and beams.

Concrete Pouring and Finishing: Assist in the pouring of concrete into prepared forms. Ensure that formwork is properly aligned and secured before concrete pouring. Monitor the curing process and make necessary adjustments to formwork.

Formwork Maintenance and Removal: Inspect formwork for damage or wear and perform necessary repairs. Safely remove formwork after concrete has set, ensuring no damage to the structure. Clean and store reusable formwork components.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations on the construction site. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe working environment. Follow site-specific safety procedures and guidelines.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other construction professionals, including carpenters, laborers, and concrete finishers. Communicate effectively with the site supervisor and team members regarding project progress and any issues encountered. Provide input and feedback to improve work processes and efficiency.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience as a Shutterhand or in a similar role within the construction industry. Familiarity with different types of formwork systems and materials. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.

Skills and Competencies: Strong technical and mechanical skills. Excellent attention to detail and precision. Good physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous tasks. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt to changing work conditions.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to various weather conditions. Must be able to lift heavy materials and work at heights. Typical construction site environment with potential exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery.
